Hi! I’m Marta, a freelancer illustrator & character designer.

I was born in 1987 in Jerez, a city in southern Spain, near the sea. As a child I enjoyed discovering and inventing new things so I was always painting, inventing recipes and stories, making bracelets, secret hideaways, modelling clay… As far as I can remember, I’ve always been creating something! So when I grew up, I decided to follow my passion and graduated in Fine Arts at the University of Granada. I completed my training at the Lycée des Arts et des Matériaux in Luxembourg and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara (Italy). Shortly after, I finished my degree in Illustration.

As an illustrator, I like to work in all kind of projects: children's books and magazines, character design, middle grade, games, textile design… I like to create expressive characters and enchanting environments that enhance the storytelling while playing around with colour, textures and lighting. I especially enjoy working on stories that inspire others and in which they can see themselves reflected. For me, magic and inspiration are found in the little things of everyday life, like listening to a record you like, drinking a cup of freshly brewed coffee, taking a walk in nature or by the sea or a quote that ignites something inside you. I currently work a lot digitally but my beginnings are linked to traditional materials such as pencils, gouache and watercolor, with which I love to create.

My clients are all over the world, from America to Korea, I've worked for publishers and magazines like Grupo Planeta, Harper Collins, Penguin Random House, Highlights for Children, Oxford University Press, Grupo Anaya, , Savanna Books, Maverick Arts Publishing, Smile Books, BJU Press, Editorial La bella Varsovia….
